Alabama Education and the National Common Core State Standards

A group of Alabama moms have gotten together and created an informational brochure about their concerns with the National Common Core State Standards for education.  Basically, the standards if voluntary adopted by individual states will create a national education system.  The standards will also include requirements for common text books.  “Alabama Edition” text books will be removed from our public schools.  CCSS will shift responsibility of our children’s education away from our local teachers, city/county school boards, and state boards of education, and place it in the hands of bureaucrats in our distant federal government.  Federal stimulus money (borrow money added to our national debt) is being provided to each state that adopts these standards.  This additional debt will be repaid by our children and grandchildren. 

Please take a few minutes and look over the attached brochure and contact information.  Contact Governor Bentley and your individual State Board of Education Member and request that they, “(1) rescind its vote on November 18, 2010 to adopt national standards and to (2) refuse to adopt national assessments (testing), which vote is expected to be taken by the Alabama State Board of Education before year’s end.”
